End of School Year Picnic & Field Day
Join us Thursday, May 24th, 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m for Sunset’s 4th Annual End of School Year Picnic and Field Day. All students and families are welcome! Picnic in the school yard followed by a field day at West Sunset field.
This is a potluck event, although the PTA and school will provide hot dogs and water. Families with last names beginning with (–) should bring:
A-F: non-veggie side dish
G-K: fruit
L-N: dessert
O-S: drinks (no soda or juice pouches)
T-Z: vegetable side dish
If you cannot attend, food can be dropped off in the cafeteria between 8:40-10:00 a.m.

Thank you Sunset Community for making our 5th Annual Spring Carnival such a success! We raised over $11,000 and will have all new computers in the Technology Lab next year. Go Sunset!
5th Annual Spring Carnival
Bring your family and friends to Sunset’s 5th Annual Spring Carnival this Saturday, April 28th, 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. (rain or shine)!
Come and enjoy classroom sponsored booths, Bouncy Houses, Cake Walk, Bake Sale and Raffle (prizes include an iPad 3). This is our final PTA fundraiser for the year. Proceeds from the raffle go towards the purchase of new computers.

This Saturday, April 14 is our final Garden Day and PTA Meeting of the school year.
9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Gardening, especially mulching
12:00 p.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Potluck lunch; please bring a dish to share
12:30 p.m. – 1:15 p.m. – PTA meeting and elections
1:15 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. – Finish gardening

Bike to School Day
Bike to School Day is Thursday, April 12, 2012. San Francisco Bike to School Day is a yearly event to celebrate biking to school on one day each Spring. It is part of the San Francisco Safe Routes to School Program and is coordinated by the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition.
Parents’ Night Out
Our first annual Parents’ Night Out is this Tuesday, April 10th from 7-10 p.m. Join us at Hobson’s Choice, 1601 Haight Street and enjoy the warm positive community that we have at Sunset. There will also be a prize drawing with lots of fun prizes. Tickets for the prize drawing will be sold the night of the event at Hobson’s. Proceeds from the evening will be donated to Sunset Elementary.

Family Projects Fair
Sunset will be holding its sixth annual Family Projects Fair on Wednesday, March 21st, 5:30-6:45 p.m. This is a school wide celebration of the creative projects that families work on together! We invite all families in our school community to explore a topic at home and create a display that explains your project. Families will display their project to other families at the fair.
If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Huey or Mr. Berger. Display boards will be available for purchase from the Student Council for $5 before school on March 13 and 14. You may also purchase one directly from Mr. Berger in 117 if you need a board before or after those dates.

Early dismissal this week (1:40 p.m.)
Reminder that school lets out at 1:40 p.m. all this week March 5-9 for Parent Teacher conferences.
ExCEL After School Program will begin at 1:40 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
The YMCA will begin at 1:40 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
There will be no after school classes for Tree Frog Trek, Chinese Instrument Music, Creative Writing and Drama
An evening of Sunset Stars
Please join us Friday February 24th for the 4th Annual Sunset Elementary Talent Show ! Come and see the incredible array of talent we have right here at our school – the students have been busy rehearsing their acts and it’s sure to be another amazing night. Come and cheer for, and support, our fabulous Sunset performers.
5:00 p.m. – Pizza will be sold by the slice in the cafeteria
5:30 p.m. – Talent Show in the school auditorium
Please let us know if you’ll be attending the Talent Show, and if your family plans to eat pizza at the school, so we can get an accurate head count.
